The Sobrato Organization and Santana Row were honored as developer and project of the decade when the Silicon Valley/San Jose Business Journal handed out the annual Structures Awards Tuesday evening, honoring the best people and projects in Silicon Valley real estate and development.
Accepting the award for developer of the decade were John A. Sobrato and his son, John Michael Sobrato. The father is a a self-made man who got his start in real estate selling houses with his mother. The son took the reins of the 31-year-old company in the last decade. The company owns more than 80 commercial properties with 8 million square feet in Silicon Valley.
Santana Row was honored for the way that the 40-acre “village” transformed the way people, shop, dine and live in Silicon Valley and put the Bay Area’s largest city on the international retail map.
