The space between matters – connect buildings to street
Melbourne’s urban center is famous for its many nooks and crannies, little alleyways between the blocks that are filled with activities and serve as an extension of the buildings. The narrow laneways are perfect places to transform and create uses for exchange, interaction, and expression. They present a sense of surprise and discovery that intrigues our nature to forage.
After the fall of the Berlin Wall, Helmut Jahn reactivated the Potsdamer Platz with the Sony Center. At the cross roads of the city, the assemblage of buildings embrace the city streets so that the outdoor and indoor environments are seamlessly blurred. It is a place protected yet connected to the district.
